Jean Mossman
Managing director, Europe

Jean Mossman has more than two decades of health care advocacy and clinical research experience. From 1995 to 2000, she was chief executive of CancerBACUP (now merged into MacMillan Cancer Support), an information and support charity for cancer patients and their families and friends. During her tenure, she expanded CancerBACUP’s services, including extending access to services with a comprehensive cancer information website and drop-in centers in hospitals, development of a patient advocacy component, and increasing the organization’s income.

Previously, Jean was executive secretary of the UK Co-ordinating Committee on Cancer Research, an umbrella organization bringing together the national organizations funding cancer research in the UK. She also worked for a number of years on the diagnosis of inherited storage disorders at the Enzyme Research Laboratory in the Institute of Child Health, London, and has written numerous publications related to this work.

As a health care consultant, Jean has undertaken a number of projects for clients that include the Department of Health, several UK charities, and several pharmaceutical companies. She is the policy lead for the European Federation of Neurological Associations (EFNA).

Jean serves as a member of the National Coordinating Centre for Health Technology Assessment Public Involvement Steering Group and is a member of the Health Technology Assessment International Patient/Citizen Interest Group. She has produced a toolkit for patient groups participating in health technology assessments (HTA), and through EFNA she helped organize a training course on HTA for patient groups in Europe.
